Observation Narrative
A somewhat weedy alluvial forest of a medium-sized floodplain along Cub Run. Vegetation of the plot is characteristic of a low, somewhat poorly drained terrace that lies between an elevated sandy levee along the stream, and narrow seasonally flooded sloughs at the back edge of the floodplain (see plot FAIR036). Platanus occidentalis dominates the canopy and Acer negundo dominates the sub-canopy. Ther herb flora is neither as dense nor as rich as that of the adjacent levee, which features extensive colonies of Mertensia virginica and other spring ephemerals.
